Jastrebarsko, popularly called Jaska, is a town with a population of 5400. It lies on the Zagreb–Karlovac motorway, on the regional road and the railway line, and is 36 km from Zagreb. Jastrebarsko and the surrounding areas have a long tradition in tourism, as this is a favourite outing destination for Zagreb residents due to its beautiful landscapes, wine-growing hills, nature reserves and countless cultural and historical monuments (churches, monasteries and castles). The surrounding areas include several attractive excursion destinations, including the Crna Mlaka ornithological reserve, the Plešivica wine road and the highest peak of the Samobor hills, Mt. Japetić (879 m).
